And he took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the village, and when he had spit on his eyes and laid his hands on him, he asked him, “Do you see anything?” And he looked up and said, “I see people, but they look like trees, walking.” (Mark 8:23-24)
This passage is one of the reasons we moved to Tennessee. The Sunday after I was given the opportunity to move, Pastor Purvis preached from this passage. He made the point that the blind man couldn’t see where he was going but he knew Jesus was leading him, so he went. I felt like God was speaking directly to me but chalked it up as coincidence. When we were walking to the car my wife turned to me and said, “He was speaking to you today wasn’t he.” There was no denying at that point that He was speaking to me. I still don’t know why we are here, but I know God wanted us here so here we are.
Six years later and we find ourselves across the country in California. We know now that the move to Tennessee wasn’t a final destination but a temporary training ground. God used that time to prepare us for the next move. He drew us closer to Him and matured our faith. We made friends and connections there that will last a lifetime. We miss them dearly. But, our place is wherever God wants us to be. So, we are here in California and ready to see how God moves once again and to see how He uses this assignment to grow us and prepare us for the next one. We know God wants us here, so here we are.
