Jesus said therefore unto the twelve, “Would ye also go away?” (John 6:67)
After giving one of His toughest sermons in which He laid out what the true cost of following Him would be, many in the crowd stopped following Jesus. He then turned to the 12 He chose and asked them this question, “Would you also go away?” We are called to be co-laborers with Christ walking hand in hand with Him. It is very easy to reach our hands up from the pit of despair to be saved by Christ. But, are we bold enough, once He has saved us, to reach out and hold His hand walking beside Him and doing His work? Or like many in this passage, faced with the true cost of discipleship, will we simply receive salvation but not heed the call to walk with Him? Salvation is free. Discipleship will cost you something. Are you willing to pay the cost, or, “Will you also go away?”
