1 In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord , make me dwell in safety. (Psalm 4:8)
Belle Glade Florida is not a very safe area. During mission trips there, our students were not allowed to travel anywhere without an adult and even the adults were advised not to travel alone. Each night we would lock the gates to the church where we were staying to provide some security for our group while we laid down to sleep. But, if someone wanted to get to us bad enough, they could probably find a way to do so.
We can endure periods of discomfort like this because we know we will be going back home to our own beds soon. We know that there is a hot shower and comfortable bed waiting for us at home. The great thing about being a child of God is the security He provides us. Even though we may be in an area that is not very safe, we can know that we have peace and safety in Him. Can we still be harmed on this earth? Yes, but really all anyone can threaten us with is sending us to Jesus.
We can endure this world until our mission is done because we know our heavenly home is waiting for us. We can lie down in peace and sleep because our Father has prepared a place for us in our heavenly home.
