Align Our Hearts

For you will not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it; you will not be pleased with a burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.      (Psalm 51:16-17)

I hesitated on using this passage because it is not an easy passage to read. David realizes that the sacrificial offerings they have been giving are not what God desires. Those sacrifices can be given without a change of heart. They may not even cost the giver a price that is hard to pay. There is no real, life change because there is no change of heart. The price paid doesn’t cost enough.

What God desires is a true change of heart. If our hearts are aligned with His, we will experience heartache because of our sins. True repentance can only come when our hearts are broken because of the sin in our lives.

When we are heartbroken for the sins in our lives, we will begin to be heartbroken for others who are trapped in the same sin. Then, our desires are in line with God’s and we will do whatever it takes to deliver others out of the same pain. Let this be our prayer, “Heavenly, Father, break our hearts for what breaks yours. Align our hearts with yours and give us the courage to reach out to others we know are hurting and need you.”

Love Y’all! Be Blessed!
