Episode #49: First Things First
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. (Matthew 6:33)
I’m in the middle of a moving project at work right now. I was given a list of things that need to be done in no particular order of importance, but all need to be done. The first thing I have to do is prioritize the list. I have to find the one thing that has to be done in order for all the other things to line up. Once that is established, that becomes my number one focus. The other things need to happen, and I will give them attention as well, but this one thing has to happen, or the rest will fail. Our faith is no different.
We are given the first priority in this verse: seek first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness. God knows our needs. He knows we have things to take care of on this earth. He knows we have families to take care of, jobs to do and bills to pay. He knows full well all the things on our “to do” list. He doesn’t tell us to forget all these things. He knows they are important, but He knows the most important thing for us.
Let us be a people of Kingdom first priorities. Stop focusing first on the, “to do”, list and start looking first to the “Finished” work of Christ. Make Him the number one priority. Without Him, the rest of the list might get done but it will never be complete.
