Episode #71: Seen and Heard
“For if we deliberately sin after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a terrifying expectation of judgment and the fury of a fire about to consume the adversaries.” (Hebrews 10:26-27)
What a powerful statement from Paul. He is speaking to those who have heard the truth but have not accepted it. They have deliberately turned to a life of sin. Those who have done this are put in the same category as Satan and his army. They are declared adversaries of God and bound for the same fury of a consuming fire. He goes on in verse 29 to say they have trampled on the Son of God, disregarded His blood as unholy and have insulted the Spirit of grace. Those seem like strong accusations but nevertheless they are true.
Our mindset should be the same as Peter and John. They were standing before the Sanhedrin, the Jewish court, and were threatened to not speak in the name of Jesus. Acts 4:19,20 records their response, “Whether it is right in the sight of God for us to listen to you rather than God, you decide; for we are unable to stop speaking about what we have seen and heard.” Let us be a people who, once we have heard the truth, nothing stop us from proclaiming it.
