Episode #74: Faith Produces Activity
“In the same way faith, if it doesn’t have works, is dead by itself. But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without works, and I will show you faith from my works.” (James 2:17-18)
At first this verse seems to contradict the gospel of Grace. However, James is not saying we are saved by our works. We are saved by grace through faith, and this is not of yourselves, (Ephesians 2:8). Grace saves us but we must, in faith, receive that grace. The act of faith that gives us grace is laying down our love of the world and our belief that we can save ourselves.
James tells us that a genuine faith causes us to act. Even when we can’t see the outcome, even if there is no benefit to us, genuine faith will cause us to be active.
We are designed by God for an active purpose. We are to be objects in motion and not paperweights. We have a modern saying, “Sitting in church doesn’t make you a Christian just like sitting in a garage doesn’t make you a car.” If you have a car with a full tank of gas sitting in the garage but you never take it out, the car is useless. The car only works when you take it out and press the gas pedal. Our faith only works when we are pressed into action. We have a race to run! Let us be a people who live our lives in such a way that the unbelievers doubt their unbelief.
Love Y’all! Be Blessed!
