Virtuous Living

Episode #76: Virtuous Living

“knowing that I will soon lay aside my tent, as our Lord Jesus Christ has also shown me. And I will also make every effort that you may be able to recall these things at any time after my departure.”   (2 Peter 1:14-15)

Nearing the end of his life Peter is telling us that he will continue to make Jesus known. In verses 5 through 8 he lists virtues that he has tried to exhibit and that we as believers should also exhibit. We are to supplement our faith with goodness, our goodness with knowledge, our knowledge with self-control, our self-control with godliness, our godliness with brotherly affection and our brotherly affection with love.

Peter was determined to live out these values because he watched Jesus model those same principles. His hope was that, after his death, when he was thought about, people would think about these qualities and not just remember Peter but in remembering Peter, they would also remember Jesus. Paul made a similar statement in Philippians chapter 4, verses 4 through 9. We as believers need to live our lives the same way. Our goal at the end of our life should be, when people remember us, they remember Jesus. I hope my eulogy will read, “He lived the way he did because he loved Jesus and Jesus lived and died the way He did because He loved us”.

Let us be a people whose lives are reflection of the character and life of Jesus.

Love Y’all! be Blessed!
