Episode #78: Righteous Advocate
“My little children, I am writing you these things so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father — Jesus Christ the Righteous One.” (1 John 2:1)
The man who represents himself before the judge is a fool. That is a common saying in the justice system in part because you are going up against a prosecutor, an accuser, that is well versed in the law. This is what they do every day, and they are skilled at it. You need an advocate on your side that is just as knowledgeable in the Word of the Law to represent you and defend you.
When we give our lives to Jesus, He becomes our advocate. There is no one better to represent us when we stand before the Father. Jesus is the Word! When judgment day comes, and it will, those of us who are in Christ will have Jesus there to defend us and He has never lost a case. Those who have not accepted Christ will stand before the Father with no advocate, no defense, and no one to speak on their behalf. Without Jesus, there is no hope of acquittal. Let us be a people who deny the desire to defend ourselves, and surrender to Jesus. He is the Righteous One and the only one fit to stand before God.
