Episode #85: Faith to Obedience to Action
“I tell you: get up, pick up your mat, and go home.” Immediately he got up, picked up the mat, and went out in front of everyone. As a result, they were all astounded and gave glory to God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this! ” (Mark 2:11-12)
In this passage we see a miracle of healing and we see a crowd astonished by the miracle as the previously paralyzed man got up and walked by them. I want to point out the act of faith by the paralyzed man. When Jesus told him to pick up his mat and go home, the text says he immediately got up, picked up his mat and walked out. Jesus never touched him. No physical operation was done to him. The only thing Jesus did was speak to him.
Jesus spoke and the man, in faith, obeyed, stood up and walked out. Jesus called and the man responded. His faith, moved him to obedience, and caused him to act, which confirmed the miracle. What is Jesus calling us to do today? What promise has He made to us that we need to respond to by acting in faith? Our act of faith will have the same effect on those watching us as the paralyzed man getting up and walking out did on the crowd watching him. They were astounded and gave glory to God. Let us be a people whose faith leads us to obedience and causes us to act for God’s glory.
