Episode #88: Get Alone With God
“And with many such parables He spoke the word to them as they were able to hear it. But without a parable He did not speak to them. And when they were alone, He explained all things to His disciples.” (Mark 4:33-34)
Jesus spoke in parables when He taught the crowds. He didn’t do this to confuse the crowds but to reveal who was truly paying attention. But there were times when even those close to Him needed an explanation of the parable. I love that it says, “And when they were alone, He explained all things to His disciples.” He took the time to get alone with His disciples and dig deeper into the message He just gave.
If we’re honest, we’ll admit there are times we walk out of church having no understanding of what was just taught. We don’t need to shrug it off and think the message wasn’t for us. We need to get alone with God and seek His word on the passage. The gospel is very powerful even in little bits but, it is most effective when we respond to it. In our walk with Jesus there will be many times that we need to slow down and get alone with Him. We can take comfort in knowing that Jesus will do the same things for us that He did with the disciples. He will meet us one on one if we seek Him and make the time to get alone. My favorite line in the song “Good, Good Father” is, “I’ve heard the tender whisper in the dead of night.”
Let us be a people who take the time to get alone with God, in an unhurried time, and listen for His voice. When we are still and seek Him, He is faithful to join us.
Love Y’all! Be Blessed!
