Get In The Boat

Episode #89: Get In The Boat

“On that day, when evening had come, He told them, “Let’s cross over to the other side of the sea.” So they left the crowd and took Him along since He was already in the boat. And other boats were with Him.”    (Mark 4:35-36)

I absolutely love God’s word! I often doubt that my words can truly express what I see and feel when I get hit by something new in a passage that I’ve read multiple times. That being said today is one of those days. This passage tells a familiar story about Jesus sleeping in the boat while the disciples are scared to death during a storm. They wake Jesus up. He rebukes the sea and calms the storm. That’s normally what we see but today I saw something new. In verse 35 He makes a promise to the disciples in the form of an invitation, “Let’s cross over to the other side of the sea.”

What I’ve missed every time is that “He was already in the boat”. Jesus didn’t join the disciples on a journey that they were taking. He called them to join Him on the journey He was about to take. HE WAS ALREADY IN THE BOAT! He knew the sea was unpredictable and storms would come but He was already in the boat. We must understand that He doesn’t send us out so that He will join us later. He bids us to join Him where He is already working. Even though there are most likely storms ahead and the going will get rough, He is already in the boat.

Chapter 5 verse 1 says, “Then they came to the other side of the sea.” When He calls us to get in the boat, it’s not a matter of if we will arrive but it is if we will have the faith to step off the shore and into the boat. Let us be a people of bold faith, willing to follow wherever Jesus is leading. Let’s get in the boat.

Love Y’all! Be Blessed!
