Only Believe

Episode #92: Only Believe

“While He was still speaking, people came from the synagogue leader’s house and said, “Your daughter is dead. Why bother the Teacher anymore? ” But when Jesus overheard what was said, He told the synagogue leader, “Don’t be afraid. Only believe.””  (Mark 5:35-36)

Jesus was going with Jairus to see his daughter that was sick and dying. We know this because verse 24 says, “And Jesus went with him.” Let that sink in for a moment. That’s a pretty powerful statement! Along the way one of the members of his house came to tell Jairus that his daughter was dead and to leave Jesus alone. Jesus replied, “Don’t be afraid, only believe.”

There are two statements here that Jairus had to choose which to believe. 1st statement, “She’s dead, leave Jesus alone.” 2nd statement, “Don’t be afraid, only believe.” I fight with this same choice and I’m guessing you do to. I know I’m called to ministry but there are days when I hear the voice of the enemy tell me, “The dream is dead, leave Jesus alone.” I know that the Father is faithful to complete the work He has started in me. So, I have the choice to listen to the enemy and quit, or press on through the crowd because I know Jesus is with me.

It’s not an easy road to follow your calling but I’m guessing you know that already. So, I say to myself and to you, “Do not be afraid, only believe.” Jairus chose to believe and press forward and he got to witness the miracle of his daughter being healed and restored. What work of God will we see if we are a people who choose to not be afraid, only believe and press forward through the crowd with Jesus?
