Episode #102: Many Buildings, One Church
“John said to Him, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him, for there is no one who will perform a miracle in My name, and be able soon afterward to speak evil of Me.” (Mark 9:38-39)
The disciples were doing what a lot of us do today. They are claiming that they had exclusive access to Jesus. They believed that they were the only ones able to cast out demons in Jesus’ name. Their statement, “He didn’t follow us”, reveals their false belief about their status.
We do this today when we compare one church to another. Satan has been using the comparison trap for centuries in order to discredit the church and the move of Jesus. If you’re a non-believer looking in from outside the church, you see it plainly. We compare denominations. We compare Pastors. We compare small church to big church and we even compare within denominations. All this does is make the church look petty and unattractive. If we truly want to have revival and fight against Satan, we need to stop comparing and competing and start cooperating.
If we want to unite cities, we need to show a united effort among churches and denominations. When we begin to do cooperative ministry between churches, we will see a revival and a massive move of God. Let us be a people who worship in many different buildings but only represent one Church, God’s Church.
Love Y’all! Be Blessed!
