Valuable Identity

Episode #104: Valuable Identity

“As He was setting out on a journey, a man ran up to Him and knelt before Him, and asked Him, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?””(Mark 10:17)

This man is identified in Matthew 19 and Luke 18 as the rich young ruler. The way he addresses Jesus, “Good Teacher”, reveals how he saw Jesus. He saw Jesus as another Rabbi or teacher but did not see him as the Son of God. He was seeking the system or formula that would earn him eternal life the same way he had found early success. The names we call people reveal their value and roles in our lives. The names we answer to also reveal the value and identity we place on our own life. A lesson I learned a long time ago is, “It’s not what they call you that matters, it’s what you answer to.”

There is no system or formula that can earn us eternal life in heaven. There is only surrender and submission to the One that was given the name above all names and that name is Jesus! We need to search our hearts and consider how we address Jesus. Do we see Him only as a teacher or the leader of a system ?Or, do we truly see Him as the Son of God, King of kings, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, and our Heavenly Father? He gives us two names that reveal how He sees us. We are called Children of the Living God and we are known as the Bride of the Son of God. Two questions to consider: How do we refer to Jesus, and what name are we answering to? The answer to both says a lot about the value we have placed on Him and on us.

Let us be a people who sees our identity in Christ as the most valuable identity we can claim.

Love Y’all! Be Blessed!
