Episode #112: Take Heed!
“And Jesus, answering them, began to say: “Take heed that no one deceives you.” (Mark 13:5)
Jesus tells us seven times in this 13th chapter of Mark to take heed, watch, and pray. This instruction should not be taken lightly. He goes on to warn us about the many that will come to deceive us and claim to be Christ. While many may not come out and say directly that they are Christ, they will claim to be some type of savior. We need to be on watch and weary of those that offer a false hope outside of the hope that Jesus gives.
The enemy is an expert on slight deception that seems harmless and even helpful. He will plant seeds of false security in order to choke out our seeds of faith. We are not only to be on guard against deceit and lies but also distractions that cause us to stray off path. There are things that may seem harmless but actually cause us to reallocate time and effort away from the mission and purpose God has given us. We are in a constant state of spiritual warfare and therefore must never let our guard down and always be on watch.
Let us be a people who are diligent to stay alert and on mission at all times. Take heed! Watch, and pray!
