Is Jesus King?

Episode #121: Is Jesus King

“The inscription of the charge against Him read, “THE KING OF THE JEWS.”” (Mark 15:26)

When someone was crucified, their charge would be hung with them on the cross. This charge “THE KING OF THE JEWS” was what Pilate had placed over Jesus. This title would justify (to Pilate) the execution since it challenged the authority of Rome. Although Pilate was mocking Jesus and the Jews with this title, we know from verse 2 that Pilate recognized the authority of Jesus.

This title could also be translated as God or Christ and that upset the Jewish priests. To put that title over Jesus would be the same as affirming that Jesus was the Messiah, the Christ sent by God himself to save the Jews. This was the very claim Jesus made and now Pilate was affirming it and mocking it at the same time. How Pilate and the Jewish priests saw Jesus determined their reaction to Him. How we see Jesus will determine how we react to Him as well.

Do we see Jesus as someone who challenges our sense of authority over our own lives? Do we see Him as someone who challenges everything we ever thought about God and religion? Or, do we see Him as the Messiah, the Son of God, the Christ sent from God to save us? How we view Him is revealed in our response to Him. Let us be a people whose response to Jesus reveals that He truly is the King of our lives, the King of all kings, the one and only Son of God.

Love Y’all! Be Blessed!
