Episode #123: Come Out of the Shadows
“Joseph of Arimathaea, an honourable counsellor, which also waited for the kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly unto Pilate, and craved the body of Jesus.” (Mark 15:43)
Joseph of Arimathaea was a member of the Sanhedrin. This was the group responsible for delivering Jesus to Pilate to be crucified. He followed Jesus secretly out of fear of the Sanhedrin. But now that Jesus had been murdered, Joseph finds a new courage.
I love the language in the King James here. Joseph went in boldly to Pilate. This was a step out of the shadows and a declaration of his allegiance to Jesus. He, “craved the body of Jesus”. This was not a small thing. He had a desperate desire to get to the body of Jesus and honor Him with a proper burial. This is an example of how our lives should be lived out today. We should “crave” His cause which is to proclaim His word to the world. Let us be a people who no longer follow Jesus in the shadows. Let us step out and declare boldly to the world our allegiance to Jesus Christ!
