Episode #175 Anytime, Any Place, Anyone
He began to teach again by the sea, and such a very large crowd gathered to Him that He got into a boat in the sea and sat down; and the whole crowd was by the sea on the land. (Mark4:1)
Once again we see a huge crowd following Jesus, and once again we see Him taking the opportunity to teach them. The crowd was so large that He had to get in a boat and cast of just a bit from the shore so the entire crowd could hear Him. He would begin to teach on the parable of the sower and the soil which we will cover later. What I want to focus on today is where this took place.
We see Jesus teach in the synagogue. We see Him teach on hillsides, and here we see Him teaching by the shore. The Word of God was in all He taught no matter who He the audience. It’s important to note that teaching in the synagogue was an opportunity for Jesus to get in front of people who held chief seats and offices in the temple but wouldn’t take the time to hear a sermon anywhere else. When He taught on hillsides and by the sea, it afforded Him the chance to speak to bigger crowds. These crowds were filled with people who may never have the chance or desire to step foot in the synagogue. When he taught in the synagogue, He spoke directly from the Word of God. He did this to reveal Himself to them through the scriptures. When Jesus taught outside of the building, He revealed the character and expectations of God through parables. He would use scripture as the basis of His parables.
The message was always the same though the method of teaching would change depending on the audience. No location was too good, too small, or too large for Jesus to avoid teaching. The size of the crowd didn’t matter either. We see Him teach to thousands and we see Him have intimate one one one conversations. He taught men and women. He taught the religious crowd and the party crowd. No time, no place no person was out of bounds for Jesus to speak. Anytime, any place, anyone was an opportunity for Jesus to teach.
Let us be a people who aren’t afraid to speak the Gospel at anytime, in any place, and to anyone. Let us remove the fences of our comfort zones and let the Gospel of Jesus Christ roam freely in every aspect of our lives.
Love Y’all! Be Blessed!
